Are you a student interested in writing a Master Thesis at our Chair? Then, this is the right place for you!

The official requirements for a Master Thesis at the Chair of Economics/Resource Economics are

  • Candidates should ideally have a solid background in Economics/Resource Economics
  • The thesis needs to include economic modelling: theoretical and/or empirical
  • Topics of the theses are determined in cooperation with the mentor/supervisor.

Then, please follow the steps:

1. Check the requirements for the Master Thesis at MTEC department here: https://mtec.ethz.ch/studies/programme-details/master-thesis.html. Make sure that the requirements are satisfied.

2. Check the requirement about the solid background in Economics/Resource Economics.

A guideline for this requirement -  e.g. it is fully satisfied if you successfully passed the following courses and/or their equivalents:

  • Resource and Environmental Economics, Prof. Bretschger
  • Principles in Microeconomics, Prof. Filippini 
  • Principles in Macroeconomics, Prof. Sturm
  • Economic Growth, Cycles and Policy, Prof.Gerschbach
  • Decisions and Markets, Prof. Bommier

We strongly advice the students to pass the courses above in order to make sure that the knowledge background of the student matches the topic of the thesis.

3. Check the list of proposed topics for the thesis below. You can chose a couple of the topics below and/or propose your own topic

4. All set? Then, please send an email to  Veronika Stolbova containing the expresssion of interest with the following items:

  • CV
  • Transcripts of records for the courses
  • Chosen/proposed topic
